Pinnacle X-Ray Solutions Inc. (PXS) is a manufacturing and integration company, founded in 2014, with a goal of providing customized x-ray solutions for the industrial Non-Destructive Testing market. Within their first year of business, PXS managed its first expansion as the building suite reached capacity. PXS is now one of the largest US-based x-ray custom manufacturers, to now include its latest addition in Willmar, MN. The Willmar site supports the fabrication of cabinets and vaults. To date, PXS has delivered over 100 systems and solutions across North America, with its first international system outside of N. America being delivered in 2020.
After 5 years of studying the NDT market, PXS came to the realization that there was a gap between the customer and its NDT solution needs. This piece was the actual inspection and interpretation of customer product as a service. With a team of highly motivated employees, a second company, PiXL, was born.
Pinnacle industrial X-Ray Laboratory, or PiXL, is an inspection service facility dedicated to supporting the technique development for digital radiography and computed tomography technology. This company is a major support structure for PXS, as it aids its ability to produce turn-key solutions for customers. In many cases, a system is just the first step in bringing on new technology. The system may be a film replacement or a new automation solution to reduce overall inspection and decrease cost of poor quality.
In today’s age of high-volume production, PiXL’s ability to produce fully automated inspection plans/techniques is in high demand. PiXL has industry leading turn around for inspection by leveraging its expertise with personnel certification according to ASNT and NAS410, blueprint reading, and inspection standard interpretation. The team at PiXL works very closely with the customer to help them understand requirements and step through the internal procedures and processes from part receipt to inspection deliverables.
The PiXL site has been recently awarded Nadcap accreditation by the Performance Review Institute for Digital Radiography (AC7114) and Aerospace Quality Systems (AC7004). PiXL’s team carries out many defense, space, and aerospace-based inspections, all of which are controlled under its ITAR registration. Many of these customers require cyber security protection, which is why PiXL is an NIST 800-171 compliant lab permitted to handle sensitive and secure information.
PiXL has performed scanning and inspection services across a multitude of industries. These include parts- such as 3D printed metal alloys, plastics, engine blocks, turbine blades, batteries, castings, composites, weapons, electronics, forensics, medical devices, ballistics, and rocket motor assemblies. In addition to servicing these industries, PiXL also acts as a support system to support the PXS system manufacturing portion of the business.
PiXL relies heavily on the latest and greatest technology. Its partner and supplier, PXS, has highly advanced DR and CT technology available that allows PiXL to operate quickly, efficiently, and at the highest level of quality. With a range of system capabilities, PiXL can inspect at submicron resolution, as well as at high energy applications to inspect superalloys and castings. When it comes to difficult projects, PiXL and PXS do not shy away from a challenge; Even when it comes to MeV scanning and system building. They have worked on projects requiring up to 15 MeV in high energy scanning.
Even with the disruptions worldwide thus far in 2020, PiXL does not plan to slow down. With a total number of five (5) systems onsite, PiXL is the largest Nadcap approved digital imaging facility in North America and plans to add up to three additional systems this year.
If education is a priority, PiXL can provide both in-house and on-site training. Any quality system requires the need for procedures, standards and training. It may come with new formal classroom training, in addition to on the job training and on the job evaluation experience.
